Serratiopeptidase - Benefits and Side Effects


What is Serratiopeptidase?
Serratiopeptidase is also known as serratia peptidase, serratio peptidase or serrapeptidase etc. It is a proteolytic enzyme, which is produced by enterobacterium Serratia sp. E-15. Serratiopeptidase is originally found inside the intestine of silkworm, that produces it to break dwon its cocoon walls. It is produced or manufactured by the purification and from the culture of Serratia E-15 bacteria.

Serratiopeptidase Benefits:
  • Serratiopeptidase is beneficial to cure many inflammatory diseases. It reduces the various forms of inflammation that too without harming living tissues and dissolves non-living tissues.

  • High doses of serratiopeptidase may cause some of the serious gastrointestinal disorders. 
  • Large or heavy doses of NSAIDs for a long period of time may cause various harmful side effects like skin rashes, high blood pressure and dizziness.
  • Excessive doses of serratiopeptidase may be harmful for liver functions and kidneys.
  • One of the common side effects due to to  serratio peptidase also includes mouth sores, fluid retention and bleeding.

Serratiopeptidase Dosage:

For adults doctors or physicians generally recommend its 5 to 10 mg dose, three times a day.
